Melbourne & Olympic Parks (M&OP) – home to some of Australia’s top sporting and entertainment events, including the Australian Open Grand Slam – has announced a key milestone for its new state-of-the-art events complex, CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park – with the largest concrete pour in the final phase of the build.
Currently in the third and final stage of its $972 million multi-year redevelopment funded by the Victorian Government, the landmark event involved 55 trucks delivering over 300 cubic metres of concrete – all poured in one day.
“We are so excited to reach this monumental milestone, laying the foundation of our newest venue, CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park. We can almost see the finish line, and very soon national and international visitors will be able to enjoy the event precinct,” said Lara Burnes, M&OP General Manager, Premier Events & Experiences.
Located only minutes away from Melbourne’s dynamic CBD, CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park is connected by path, rail, road and river – an entertainment hub architecturally designed to embody Australia’s native landscape and capture the city’s vibrant culture.
With the culinary experience at its core, the new venue will boast a state-of-the-art production kitchen for unique dining experiences. Curated by Delaware North Executive Chef Asif Mamun, the venue’s menu will be designed around its Paddock to Plate philosophy, which will see the team focus on locally sourced and seasonal produce individually designed for each event. The gastronomy experience will be complemented with Victorian wines, locally brewed beers, small batch spirits and premium Melbourne-based coffee roasters.
Offering indoor and outdoor function spaces, the venue is suitable for any event. Catering for 10 to 3000 guests – the main ballroom can be transformed into any configuration, seating up to 1400 guests for a gala dinner and up to 3000 for a cocktail party.
CENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park, scheduled for completion in late 2021, is set to showcase at Sydney’s Annual PCOA Conference & Exhibition, held on 8–10 December 2019.
