The all-new SMC: Sydney’s newest conferencing centre unveiled
As we enter a new decade, SMC hopes everyone has had a safe and smooth start to 2020. For those who have been adversely affected by the devastating bushfires, storms and travel bans, know that SMC, its owners, the Freemasons of NSW and ACT, and their charity Masonicare have a Disaster Relief program providing much needed financial assistance and other support to communities.
Now that the business year is well underway and SMC’s multi-million dollar renovations are complete, it’s a perfect time to see how the centre’s transformation is making it easy for event owners.
Thursday 5 March marks the occasion of SMC’s Venue Showcase. General Manager Paul Davison and Director of Sales Scott Cooper extend a warm invitation to associations and business events professionals to explore the luxurious interiors of all 13 refreshed event spaces and get a taste of the world-class catering, creativity and customer service excellence for which SMC is renowned.
Running from 4-7pm, attendees can choose to stop by briefly or enjoy the full Venue Showcase with expert guided tours, presentations of the services and facilities as well as an unprecedented opportunity to meet industry suppliers who will be activating inside SMC’s spaces.
According to Paul, “The Venue Showcase is our first chance to really engage with the broader events industry and show off everything that makes SMC unique. It’s a great opportunity for event organisers to come and see how SMC is perfectly positioned to be their first-choice venue for conferences, meetings and events in Sydney’s CBD.”
By grouping spaces into seven different zones and theming each one, the SMC team cleverly demonstrates the flexibility of its spaces and the diverse styles of functions, events, meetings and exhibitions that can be held within its monumental walls.
Entering from 279 Castlereagh St, discover the magnificent Marble Foyer set up in cocktail mode with a make-your-own poké bowl station, a pop-up bar running espresso martini-making masterclasses and live music setting the scene for memorable occasions.
While sampling delicious prawns, freshly-shucked oysters and fine sparkling wines, it is easy to envisage your next gala or awards ceremony in the Banquet Hall as it shimmers with programmable event lighting and an intelligent light show.
Meanwhile in the conference-oriented Grand Lodge, Audio Visual Services Manager Paul Noakes will lead attendees through hands-on demonstrations of SMC’s integrated audio, lights and vision showing off the ‘at the touch of a finger’ controls that event organisers can use to create the ideal ambience for different types of events.
When it comes to entertaining guests and delegates, the SMC team can carry almost any theme through multiple spaces or separate them as desired. As an example, the Boardroom gets an Oceans 11 style makeover with blackjack tables and croupiers for the full Vegas Nights experience. Elsewhere newly renovated rooms are set for banquet breakfasts, high teas and cheese and wine tastings to give attendees a sense for the versatility of SMC’s spaces and ideas for catering options to suit all manner of events.
The SMC team looks forward to taking you through their magnificent and unique purpose-built conference and event centre. You’ll be impressed with every aspect of the 21st century transformation of this 20th century architectural landmark.
